Winebarger Wins Third 2021 Wil West Modified Shootout Win At SSP; Comer Dominates For Third Win Of The Week
Banks, Oregon- Friday, August 13th, was the seventh round of action for the 2021 Wild West Modified Shootout. The series spent their second consecutive night at Sunset Speedway Park. Twenty-three IMCA Modifieds and ten Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods were all on hand at the "Banks Bullring."
Jake Mayden, from Springfield, led the field on the opening start of the forty-lap IMCA Modified main event. Mayden was the pacesetter of the lot until lap five when Banks' Greg Walters overtook him.
Walters spent a bit of time in the top place position. Seven total stoppages occurred in the main event, which made restarts very important. Collen Winebarger would chase down Walters after a restart and took control of the top spot on lap fifteen.
Winebarger, from Corbett, took off and had to deal with a little bit of traffic but managed to handle it with ease. Winebarger held on to first place the rest of the distance to win his third race of the 2021 Wild West Modified Shootout.
It is his first triumph at SSP with the tour and is his eleventh career victory with the series. Collen Winebarger has four wins in the Shaw Race Cars Western Region and three in KMJ Performance Oregon State action.
Jake Mayden rallied to end the race second while Stayton's Grey Ferrando placed third. Greg Walters took home fourth while the top five was completed by Craig Cassell, of Albany, in fifth. Collen Winebarger was the Eagle Track Raceway Hard Charger Award winner, while Shelton, Washington traveler Brenton Schnitzer won the consolation feature.
The Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods had their final night alongside the Wild West Modified Tour. The twenty-five-lap main event had a total of six yellow flags. Dustin Comer took over the lead from Phoenix, Arizona's Michael Melton, by the completion of the second circuit.
Driving the Art Hiatt-owned entry, Comer of Springfield dominated the rest of the way to win his third race of the week. Comer now has seven KMJ Performance Oregon State wins to his name, but it is his first ever at SSP.
In the Sanders Racing entry, Keith Foux, from Red Bluff, California, was the runner-up over third-place finisher Chris Frisbie, was currently stationed at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. Yreka, California teenager Ryan Peery got fourth, while fifth in the finishing order would be Trevor Points, from Salem.
The Wild West Modified Shootout wraps it all up at Grays Harbor Raceway on Saturday, August 14th. The Elma, Washington facility will host just IMCA Modifieds, and a champion will be crowned at the end of the night.
