O’Neil, Winkler, Logsdon, And Waldal Earn September 7th SSP Wins

Banks, Oregon- Sunset Speedway Park raced on Saturday, September 7th to decide four track championships. The first of two consecutive “Championship Night” weekend had the final bouts of 2019 for the Pure Stocks/IMCA Hobby Stocks, Outlaw Late Models, and both Micro Sprint divisions. Some great racing was to be had at the “Banks Bullring.”
Danny O’Neil Jr., of Vancouver, Washington won his first Pure Stock/IMCA Hobby Stock main of the year. Fellow Vancouver, Washington racer Austin Henderson was the runner-up while Jacob Myers, of Portland, placed third. Terry King, from Warren, got fourth over fifth finishing Portland pilot Cory Garrison. Henderson would be declared the class champion.
Brian Winkler, from Newberg, grabbed his fifth checkered flag in the Outlaw Late Model division. Battle Ground, Washington veteran Sonny Modaff was second while Seaside’s Todd Rogers recorded a third-place result. Jefferson native Mike Betker rounded out the finishing order, in fourth. Winkler topped the rest of the competition in the points fight to be declared the 2019 track champion.
Macie Logsdon put in an excellent performance in the Open Micro feature. The Mt. Vernon, Washington traveler, won her first Open main of the current campaign. Deming, Washington’s Jeff Little got second followed by Justen McConnville, of Dundee, in third. Alex Riesch, from Mt. Angel, was credited with fourth with Sherwood young lioness Casey Starr earning fifth. Justen McConnville managed to keep in front of the rest of the competition to win the title.
Battle Ground, Washington youngster Seth Waldal put together a remarkable run in the Restricted Micro Sprint main. It is Waldal’s first win of the season. Macie Logsdon, doing double duty, came across the wire in second followed by Levi Kuntz, from Carnation, Washington, in third. Monroe, Washington ace Keira Zylstra earned fourth while Aberdeen, Washington racer Mason Dineen was fifth. Logsdon kept all point challengers at bay to win the 2019 Restricted Micro championship.
Saturday, September 14th will see another series of racers earn their crowns at SSP. Six classes are on the card included the IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, IMCA Sport Mods, 4-Bees, New Bees, and the Big Sky Landscaping Stock Car Series.
Ticket prices are $13.00 for Adults and Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Kids (5 & Under) are FREE. A Family Pass (Two Adults and up to four Youths (6-12)) is offered for $35.00 while Premium Seats are available for $25.00 each.
