Doug Walters Classic Next For Sunset Speedway Park; Racing Saturday August 31st And Sunday September 1st

Banks, Oregon- One of the biggest race weekends on the Sunset Speedway Park calendar is this weekend, the Doug Walters Classic. The race is run in tribute of the late Doug Walters who owned and operated the ¼-mile facility for several seasons. Both nights feature IMCA Modifieds, Outlaw Late Models, IMCA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks/IMCA Hobby Stocks, 4-Bees, New Bees, and both divisions of the Micro Sprints.
Ticket prices for both nights are $13.00 for Adults and Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Kids (5 & Under) are FREE. A Family Pass (Two Adults and up to four Youths (6-12)) is offered for $35.00 while Premium Seats are available for $25.00 each. On Sunday, the Outlaw Late Models will race for sixty-seven laps, in honor of Doug’s longtime racing number, and will pay $777.00. Saturday the main event is $577.00 to win. Greg Walters has won the race held in his father’s memory seven times while Joey Tanner has scored the win in the last three.
Brian Winkler leads the Outlaw Late Model division with the most victories with four trips to the winner’s circle. Sonny Modaff is the only other driver to the best the entire field. He has done so twice. Greg Walters has the most amount of win in the IMCA Modified class. Walters has an impressive five triumphs to his credit while Doug Lockwood is the only other multi-feature winner, with two. Drivers to have hit the pay dirt once include Aaron Elwess, Jerry Schram, Jeremy Martin, and Matt Jenner.
Joey Tardio is still a fierce force to reckon with in the Street Stocks. Tardio has amassed trips to victory lane over Craig Loomis’ three. Arnie Case has gotten the job done twice with Zack Simpson, the lone one-race victor. In the Pure Stock/IMCA Hobby Stock class it’s a tie for most wins between Austin Henderson and Jacob Myers. Both pilots have managed to win five times this season amazingly. Kendall Lee is the only driver with one win in the division. For the IMCA Sport Mods, Tanner Krohling leads the category as the most decorated driver. Tanner has gotten four wins to his name. Rod Lowe, Brad Ruth, Ric Fors, and Braedon Hand have accomplished successes just once.
“Crimson” Cody Skies is one vessel to be on the lookout for in the 4-Bees. Skies has struck gold three times in 2019. Captain Turnabout, Taylor Sayre, and Jeremy Hughes all have visited the winner’s circle twice. Joey Elwess, Eddie Farness, Myke Landis, John Gartner, and Ryan Conroy consist of the lengthy list of single race victors. Andie Keller has bested the competition on three occasions in the New Bees while Tori Chandler has done so two times.
Last to cover is the Micro Sprints. Keira Zylstra is coming off of her season leading fourth triumph in the Restricted Micros. Chauffeurs managing just one win in the current campaign include Macie Logsdon, Colby Thornhill, Mason Dineen, and Braden Maltais. In the Open division, Justen McConnville is the lone multi-main event victor. McConnville has accomplished the mission of collecting the winner’s check three times. Jeff Little, Josh Thompson, Jesse Schlotfeldt, Malachi Gemmer, and Devin Fisher have hit pay dirt only once.
