Joey Tardio Wins 2019 Jim’s Thriftway 100; Walters, Schott, “Crimson” Skies, Chandler, Little, And Logsdon Record July 6th Wins At Sunset

Banks, Oregon- Sunset Speedway Park made a quick turnaround, after racing on Independence Day, when action resumed on Saturday, July 6th. The date was reserved for the annual Jim’s Thriftway 100, one of the oldest races at the ¼-clay ova and is one of the most prestigious Street Stock races in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to the Street Stocks, a full card of racing would compliment the card with the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, 4-Bees, New Bees, and both classes of Micro Sprints on tap.
The Street Stock main event was a one-hundred lap contest with the winner receiving $1000.00. At the drop of the checkered flag, Forest Grove’s Joey Tardio was the first to cross the line. It is Tardio’s first win of the season in the class and his first career Jim’s Thriftway 100. Greg Walters, of Banks, managed to win his second IMCA Modified feature of the week to bring his grand total to five main event victories. Happy Valley’s Donald Schott got the job done in the IMCA Stock Cars becoming the third different winner in as many races in the class when they have visited SSP.
“Crimson” Cody Skies, helming his vessel from the port of Vancouver, Washington, showed no quarter to the competition to take the treasure and loot in the 4-Bees for the third occasion. In the New Bees, Tori Chandler became the second different driver to best the field and ultimately spoiling the perfect record of Andie Keller. Macie Logsdon, making the long journey from Mount Vernon, Washington, finished first in the Restricted Micros main, her first win of the year, while Deming, Washington’s Jeff Little got the job done in the Open Micros for his first victory of 2019.
Sunset Speedway Park has another just one race on the card next week and will be in the middle of the week. The Winged 360 Sprints of the Western Sprint Tour return on Thursday, July 11th for the fourth round of Speedweek Northwest while playing the role of the support division will be the Street Stocks. The track will take the weekend off before returning on July 20th for the 4-Bee Bonanza.
Thursday tickets are $16.00 for Adults and Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $13.00, Youths (6-12) $8.00, and Children (5 & Under) are FREE. A Family Pass (Two Adults and up to four Youths (6-12)) is offered for $55.00 while Premium Seats are available for $35.00 each.
