Banks, Oregon- Wednesday, June 27th would have the Wild West Modified Shootout visit Sunset Speedway Park. In the middle of hot laps there would be a lengthy weather delay due to rain showers. Despite the stoppage all racing events would be completed. Thirty-two cars would inhabit the pit area representing the states of Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, and North Carolina as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.
John Campos would seize the top spot at the drop of the green flag. The Keizer native would remain there until lap five when Albany’s Bricen James made it around him. James was the car to beat but unfortunately under caution would lose a driveline on lap twenty-two. Campos would inherit the first-place position.
On lap twenty-seven Jesse Williamson would make the crucial pass on Campos to become the third different leader of the race. Williamson, of Eugene, would remain there the rest of the way for his second win in three nights to become the only repeat victor in 2018 so far. It is Jesse’s twelfth win of his career with the series and the fourth time he has done so at Sunset Speedway Park.
John Campos was second followed by the Jim and Brian Wulfenstein owned entry, in third, driven by Ethan Dotson of Bakersfield, California. Collecting fourth was Grey Ferrando, from Stayton, while the top five was rounded up with Corbett’s Collen Winebarger, in fifth. Winebarger and Medford veteran Mark Wauge were the two consolation feature winners.
