Brookshire Wins Bud Light Iron Man 100; Henry, Van Ortwick, Gartner, And Jackson Also Get Wins

Banks, Oregon- Sunset Speedway Park would host their biggest Pure Stock race of 2017 on Saturday, June 3rd. The Bud Light Iron Man 100 would see a good field of competitors battle it out for one-hundred laps on the “Banks Bullring”. Other division on the card included the IMCA Sport Mods, Dwarf Cars, 4-Bees, and New Bees.
Larry Brookshire would record his second win of 2017 in the Pure Stocks and win his first ever Iron Man 100. Tanner Krohling would record a second place finish while Kendall Lee, of Forest Grove, was third. Forest Grove’s Amanda Clarke and Lonnie Jackson, of Carlton, rounded out the top five finishing order in fourth and fifth respectively.
Hillsboro’s John Henry would tame the field in the IMCA Sport Mods. Henry is the only main event winner in the class as the Sport Mods would finally have their first race of the year completed. Brad and Scott Ruth would be the rest of the finishing order in second and third.
Jake Van Ortwick, of Scappoose, would be the big winner in Dwarf Car competition. Van Ortwick managed to be the only driver to win besides Ryan Martinez in 2017. Shane Youngren, from Tigard, crossed the wire in second over Dennis Liebig. Jake Tupper, out of St. Helens, was fourth while Lebanon’s Clayton Parsons got fifth.
Portland’s John Gartner found his way back to victory lane in the 4-Bee ranks. It would be Gartner’s first win of the current campaign. Austin Henderson wound up second over third finishing Captain Turnabout, sailing out of the port of Vancouver, Washington. Ron Henderson and William Wolfe managed to get fourth and fifth.
Bailey Jackson, of Carlton, got the job done in the New Bees. It was the young Jackson’s first win this year. Cutlas and Thunder Jones would finish behind her in second and third. Forest Grove’s Kaylee Batalgia got fourth while Taylor Sayre, out of Vancouver, Washington, was fifth.
Sunset Speedway Park is back in action on Saturday, June 10th for 98.7 The Bull Kids Night. All children twelve years or younger get into the races for FREE and there will be a bicycle give away as well. Classes competing include the Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Bridgeport Logistic Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, 4-Bees, and New Bees.
Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, Time Trials begin at 5:30, with Racing kicking off at 6:30. Tickets are $13.00 for Adults and Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00.
