A. Case, Henry, LaBarge, Youngren, And T. Owen Earn June 18th Wins At SSP

Banks, Oregon- Sunset Speedway not only hosted the sixth leg of 2016 Wild West Modified Shootout, on Friday June 17th, but also a full card of racing on Saturday the 18th. The Banks Bullring would have the Bridgeport Logistics Street Stocks, IMCA Sport Mods, Pure Stocks, Dwarf Cars, and 4-Bee’s in attendance with a pretty full pit area too.
Arnie Case, of Vancouver, Washington, managed to score a victory on Friday night and would back it up on Saturday night to sweep the weekend in the Bridgeport Logistics Street Stocks. Case would obtain the lead on lap twenty-seven, from Vancouver, Washington’s Tim Jenner, and remained in the position the rest of the way to win his third race of 2016.
Tim Jenner was the runner-up followed by Travis Koch, who is also from Vancouver, in third. The balance of the top five would consist of Benny Sauter of Dayton, in fourth, and fifth finishing Justen Case, who is Arnie’s son and also hails from Vancouver.
Hillsboro’s John Henry would dominate the IMCA Sport Mod feature. Henry would grad the coveted top spot on the opening lap and lead all twenty laps. It would be John’s second win of the year and made him the first repeat winner on the campaign. Vancouver, Washington driver Michael Melton was second and Archie Somers of Woodland, Washington finished the order in third.
Trevor LaBarge got to the front on lap eleven in the Pure Stock main event. LaBarge, from Forest Grove, was able to keep his machine ahead of everyone else to win for the third time this year.
Greg Long crossed the wire in second and third place would go to Cornelius chauffeur Rod Lowe. Forest Grove’s Kendall Lee was fourth and Travis Pitch completed the top five in fifth.
Another wonderful and massive turnout for the Dwarf Cars were at SSP Saturday night. Shane Longren would lead all but the first two laps of the finale. The Tigard driver scored his second win of 2016 in another impressive win.
Jimmy Brinster of St. Helens got the runner-up while third was Portland’s Ryan Martinez. Eric Bergquist from Hillsboro finished fourth and fifth place went to Guy Tow Sr. of Rainier.
Last but not least was the 4-Bee’s. Tylor Owens on lap fourteen found his way to the front. The Vernonia driver held all challengers off to win his second victory this year.
Chris Batalgia, of Forest Grove, got second and William Wolfe placed third. Vancouver, Washington’s Rob Ferree ended his night in fourth and Jason Gilman from Forest Grove got fifth.
Sunset Speedway Park returns to action this Saturday June 25th for Fan Apprecation Night presented by Rockstar. A super full card of racing is on tap including the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series (including Super Late Models), Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Bridgeport Logistic Street Stocks, IMCA Sport Mods, Pure Stocks, Dwarf Cars, and 4-Bee’s.
Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, and Racing begins around 6:30. Adult tickets are $13.00, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Children (5 and Under) are FREE.
