A driver that is having success after success in 2015 is Mark Carrell. The Redmond ace is off to a hot start with five main event wins and four second place finishes which has propelled him high atop the standings of the Northwest Modified Cup. Mark has achieved two wins at Sunset Speedway Park, two wins at Skagit Speedway, and just one victory at Elma, Washington's Grays Harbor Raceway.
“This year has been real good,” said Carrell, “this car is practically brand new and has been very fast everywhere we go. We were only going to race all the events in Washington but when this Northwest Modified Cup deal got started we are trying to race as much as we can.”
The plans are for Carrell to race at Grays Harbor on Saturday and catch the final four races of the Wild West Modified Shootout starting with Cottage Grove Speedway. CGS has been very kind to him in the past as he has accumulated two Late Model championships and numerous main event victories at the historic facility. He attributes much of his success in the current campaign to his girlfriend Cathy Beach.
“Cathy is such a tremendous amount of help to me,” commented Mark, “she is practically the only other person with the car and is there for me to help drive the truck, prepare tires, and change a flat if we ever get one.”
Even though he will miss out on three of the races the Mark's Auto Body #27 GRT by Phillips is still a legitimate threat to win any of the nights he will race. He won his one and only Wild West Modified Shootout victory on July 20th at Sunset Speedway Park last year and also won the Dancin Bare Topless 100 in 2013 at the same venue.
“We're just looking to have fun and do the best we can with what we have,” he would continue, “we only have one car and one motor so we can't get tore up too bad .”
