Banks, Oregon- Sunset Speedway Park will be busy this Saturday June 6th as the “Banks Bullring” host the Iron Main 100. This event is the biggest race of the season for the Pure Stock division and should be an entertaining main event. Other classes in competition include the IMCA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, and Dwarf Cars. The venue will also host a practice on Sunday the 7th from Noon to 5:00 PM.
The Pure Stocks had a wild finish last Saturday with a last lap crash resulting in Adam Hopkes to win his first race of the season. John Henry and defending champion Trevor LaBarge are tied for most wins of the season, with two each, while Ken Schave joins Hopkes as the only two drivers with one win in 2015.
Despite the extended distance this race will still count for points towards the track championship. There will be a stop at lap fifty for FUEL ONLY and no driver changes will be allowed. If there is a driver change you will start at the back and receive no points. And we would like to remind everyone to mount their transponder to the FIREWALL and not the BUMPER.
The Street Stocks are back from a week off. The guy to beat as of late has been Brian Roden. Roden has the most this year, with three, and has won those three races in only four starts. The time he didn't win in that four week span he was second. Tony Catalano has two victories and Arnie Chase has just one.
The IMCA Sport Mods have yet to see a repeat winner in the current campaign. 2015 winners include Michael Melton, Pamela Graham, and Jim Potter. Will that trend continue this Saturday?
Finally the Dwarf Cars return to SSP after their one and only appearance at Willamette Speedway last Saturday. This division has yet to see a repeat winners with a list of victors including Chris McCleary, Guy Tow Jr., defending champ Ryan Martinez, and Kalvin Morton.
Pit Gates will open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates open at 4:00, and racing starts at 6:30. Tickets for this event are Adults $13.00, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-18) $10.00, Youths (Ages 12-6) $5.00, and Children under the age of 5 are FREE and a family pass will be offered for two Adults and up to four Youths for just $35.00.
Sunset Speedway Park, as mentioned above, will be hosting a practice event on Sunday June 7th lasting from Noon to 5:00 PM. Folks that want to watch from the grandstands there is no charge and it's FREE. Pit Passes are $25.00 each and so are Car/Driver fees. For more information log on to http://www.sunsetspeedwaypark.com.
