The 4-Bee class at Sunset Speedway Park has shown great strides in numbers with the class growing and growing year after year. Second-generation driver Kim Oyler of Gresham, Oregon, but originally from Portland, has been one of those newcomers to the sport as both her and her sister Lisa follow in the footsteps of their father John.

Currently Kim is attending Mt. Hood Community College to obtain a degree in criminal justice. In 2012 she was the recipient of the Most Improve Driver award at River City Speedway in St. Helens. We got a chance to talk to Kim about what her plans in 2014 are, what her biggest highlight of her career has been, and if she has any interest moving up to any other classes. Now let’s get up to speed with Kim Oyler.

Driver: Kim Oyler
Hometown: Gresham, Oregon
Occupation: Student at Mt. Hood Community College
Years Racing: 2

Classification: 4-Bee
Team: Oyler Racing
Car: 41
Chassis: 1992 Ford Escort
Sponsors: Absolute Auto, Hairapist, Footprint Designs
Special Thanks: John Oyler (Father), Lisa Oyler (Sister), Pit Mom Karen, Daughters, All The Fans

BD: So Kim how did you get your start in racing?
KO: Really through my dad, he used to race at Portland Speedway years ago. A few years ago he got me and my sister cars and we have raced them ever since. It’s been a lot of fun.

BD: What are some of your plans in 2014?
KO: Well we’re going to race both Sunset Speedway Park and River City Speedway. We will be racing pretty much every weekend this year.

BD: Why do you chose the #41?
KO: All of our cars have fours in our numbers. My dad is #14, my sister Lisa is #4, and so I took #41.

BD: What are some of your goals that you have set for yourself either long or short term?
KO: Just do better than I did last year which I don’t think I did that bad in 2013. Long term I just want to stay in the 4-Bees because there is a lot of work just to keep these type of cars racing.

BD: What would you say is your biggest racing highlight so far?
KO: Probably when I went out to Banks and won the race on championship night in 2012. That was a great night. Overall this whole experience has been hands down fun.

Sunset Speedway Park will be hosting at test and tune practice event this Saturday April 12th. The practice is slated to get underway around 2:00 PM and will last until dusk. Pit Passes are $25.00 and folks wanting to watch the practice from the main grandstands get in for FREE. For the latest information regarding SSP visit www.sunsetspeedwaypark.com.
