Gilman, Ireland, Loomis, And Asanovic SSP Winners Saturday Night
By Ben Deatherage
Excitement was what would happen all night long at Sunset Speedway Park on Saturday September 14th. As the season winds down the action continues to occur week after week. On hand for the latest installment of the 2013 season was the Northwest Wingless Tour, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and 4-Bees.
This season has been quite memorable for Forest Grove’s Jake Gilman. Already earning a victory with the wing on against the Northwest Extreme Sprints he would pick up a victory without the wing with the Northwest Wingless Tour. Gilman was fast and smooth on the “Banks Bullring” to put his Maverick Welding Supply #11X Maxim in victory lane.
For the third time this year Rob Ireland would visit the winner’s circle and just the second time he has done so with the IMCA Modifieds. It would be a fitting way to end the season as the Banks driver would sew up his championship in the Privateer Racing/Ireland and Ireland at Law #8 entry.
Although the year is not complete Craig Loomis gets ever so closer to wrapping up another championship. The driver from Vancouver, Washington would be dominant in the Street Stock feature to win his fifth race of the campaign. He will enter the final race of the season in his Buz's Equipment Trailers/City Sprint Delivery/Liberty Welding #01 Camaro with a sizable point lead.
The Meyer Auto Body/Transaction Transmissions/Champion Signs #26 of Gaston's Stan Asanovic would win a close one in the 4-Bee division for his first win of the year. When the dust had settled it would be Banks driver Mike Mastrangelo in his #00 declared the 2013 SSP 4-Bee champ.
Sunset Speedway Park will be back in action next Saturday September 21st. The night will mark the final point races of the year for the Northwest Extreme Sprints, Northwest Extreme Modifieds, Street Stocks, and the Womens divisions while also on the card will be the Midgets.
