Banks, Oregon- One of the biggest nights of the 2013 Sunset Speedway Park racing calendar will take place on Saturday August 24th. The evening will consist of the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region which are the best 360 Sprint pilots in the Western United States. It will be the one and only time you will be able to see these drivers take on the “Banks Bullring” this so you don’t want to miss this one. Also in competition will be the Street Stocks, 4-Bee’s, and Womens divisions.
Ticket prices are Adults $17.00, Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $13.00, Youths (6-12) $7.00, 5 and Under FREE, Family Pass (Two Adults and Up To Four Youths) $40.00. On Saturday front gates open up at 3:30 PM with racing scheduled to start at 6:00 PM.
There have been three ASCS-Northwest Region events held at Sunset Speedway Park since 2008. Roger Crockett has two wins while Kyle Hirst has one. Crockett has been dominant at the 2013 ASCS-Northwest scene with eight total wins including last weekend at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon. Will Crockett again be a visitor of the ¼-mile clay oval’s victory lane or will a new face grace the front stretch when the night is over?
The Street Stocks has seen Craig Loomis defend his championship rather well. Coming off of his first ever Jim’s Thriftway 100 victory Loomis has collected a total of four wins. Brian Roden has visited victory lane three times while Marc Farrar has done so twice. John Ireland and Tony Catalano have one win each in the 2013 season. Loomis has a eighty-six point lead over Brian Roden in the championship standings.
This season the 4-Bee’s have seen Mike Mastrangelo and John Oyler each have three wins while the “Boys From Buxton”, Travis Koch and Jason Blythe, have achieved two wins apiece. Gary Meyer is the only driver that has won once this season in the 4-Bee division. Mastrangelo leads the point standings by fifty-four over Blythe.
Freya Smith has won every single Womens division race with the exception of one. With a total of eight wins and a massive two-hundred-twenty point lead 2013 appears to be all Smith’s. Gabrielle Hollinger, who is second in points, is the only driver that has been able to beat Smith this year.
The Sunset Speedway Park is located just west of the Portland metro area in Banks on the Sunset Highway. From April until October you can get your racing fix at this facility which competes weekly primarily on Saturday nights. Regular classes in action include the NW Extreme Winged Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, 4-Bee’s, NW Extreme Modifieds, and the Womens division.
