Coburg’s Jesse Williamson is having a perfect 2013 Wild Wild West Modified Shootout season. Coming off of a big win at the Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington on Saturday June 15th Williamson was looking to capture the victory at the next track. That track being the Sunset Speedway Park, a ¼-mile bulling in Banks, on Monday the 17th the smallest they will compete on all week.

When the green flag dropped in the main event Nick Trenchard of Klamath Falls would get to the early race lead. The pole sitter Trenchard set the pace for several laps, in the Rich and Nicky Biehn owned Airgas/FMD Graphics #54N Loose Gruff, before a caution on lap four would bunch the field back up.

On the ensuing restart Trenchard would continue to lead the pack but before too long Jesse Williamson, who started fourth was hot on his heels. Williamson, in his Housing Options/Furniture Options #W5 Hughes, maneuvered his mount to get underneath Trenchard to make the pass for the lead shortly after the restart. What would occur from that point could only be described as utter domination.

As the green flag run went longer and longer Williamson’s lead got larger and larger. Lapped traffic was quickly coming up into the view of the pace setter and getting through the back markers seemed like it would be the deciding factor of who would win the race. The #W5 used a little caution while lapping traffic but knew there was no chance of him winning if he stayed behind the slower cars for too long.

Williamson would have no issues though and make it look easy. Jeremy Shank of Salem, who made his way up to second, looked like a threat if he could get past the lapped cars and challenge Williamson. The Left Coast Motorsports/South Pacific Auto Sales and Service Center #30 Swartz of Shank worked the low line underneath traffic and at one point was only a straightaway behind Williamson but the laps were running out quickly.

As the laps continued to count down Williamson would have no issues. Williamson would go on to win his second straight feature victory with the Wild Wild West Modified Shootout to earn his fourth career triumph with the series. That ties him with Brian Poppa on the all-time win list since the series started competing in 2011.

“It was pretty racy tonight,” commented Jesse Williamson in victory lane, “it seemed like we were going three-wide a couple of times. I can’t complain a bit two in a row now. I got to thank all the guys helping me they’ve been wrenching on the car all week.”

Jeremy Shank would finish a respectable second place followed by Nick Trenchard in third. After being disqualified on Saturday Mark Carrell of Redmond answered back with a fourth place finish in his Mark’s Auto Body/Gray’s Automotive #27 GRT by Phillips with fifth place going to the Payroll Specialties Inc./Hoppes Construction #F1 Impressive of Monte Bischoff from Medford.

Two sets of heat races were ran earlier in the night among four groups. Winners of the first set of heats were the Dave Walters owned All-In Property Investments #67 Jet of Collen Winebarger from Corbett, Jake Van Ortwick from Scappoose in the Andone Enterprises/Justin Russell Trucking #53V Rayburn, Monte Bischoff, and Jacksonville’s Mark Wauge in the Skinner Autoplex/Meineke Car Care Center #1M Loose Gruff. The winners of the second of heats were Nick Trenchard, Mark Carrell, Jeremy Shank, and Mark Wauge. A six car six lap trophy dash was ran with Jesse Williamson earning the victory and collecting the $300.00 courtesy of Schram Brothers Excavating and Diamond R Excavating.

The Aloha Station Tavern/Perfection Automotive #66 FR1 of Doug Lockwood from Aloha and Yreka, California’s Kyle Casson in the Ken’s Glass Company/Rodgers Racing Engines #11K Rayburn were the two consolation feature winners. Curtis Towns of Cottage Grove would capture the last chance qualifier in his SKS Racing/Valley Rose Construction #24 X-Factor.

The Wild Wild West Modified Shootout will be in action Tuesday June 18th at the Willamette Speedway for round three. Jesse Williamson is seeking his third consecutive victory which would but him ahead of Brian Poppa on the all time win-list.
