Hoffsess Wins Sprint Feature
By Ben Deatherage
Banks, Oregon- Mitch Hoffsess’ record in a Sprint Car is very good. The twenty-year old Beaverton native has started in four total races and has won in three of them. Two of which include a wing and one without. Hoffsess would capture his third victory with the Northwest Extreme Sprints at Sunset Speedway Park’s first race of the year on Saturday April 20th.
Hoffsess would dominate in the feature leading every lap after starting on the pole. Building a huge lead Hoffsess would lap up to fourth place en route to the victory in the Schram Brothers Excavating #5H Rocket.
“It’s awesome to win the season opener,” commented Hoffsess, “everyone gets excited about that first race because their cars are all top notch. I have to thank by Dad Karl for helping me out tonight with the car.”
Theo McCarty of Hillsboro in the BDR Racing #6 Rocket was second followed by Oregon City’s Ryan Bothwell in the Schram Brothers Excavating #19 Avenger in third. The rest of the top five finishers were Sammy Wright of Vancouver, Washington driving the BDR Racing #11 John Boy in fourth and Forest Grove’s Jake Gilman in his Maverick Welding Supply #11X Maxim. Wright would earn victories earlier in the night in both the heat race and trophy dash.
The Northwest Extreme Winged Sprints will have the week off before their next race. The classification will next be in action on May 4th for round two. For more information log on to www.sunsetspeedwaypark.com.
